Testing has shown aluminum rings gear durability is improved by using pine pinion gears, there was testing with oak & cedar but they cause excessive premature wear.... When matched with a pine pinion gear technicians were able to travel upwards of three miles before the ring gear failed.... Well there was one premature failure but it was due to a stone in the path of the vehicle... It appears driving over the stone overstressed the ring gear...

Damn, that's impressive! Sand casting is a damn art form. Too bad Chrysler Power didn't get him to cast their new 318 poly intakes...could have made them more affordable.
