Anyone one here into Sweptline pickups?

As ugly and rudimentary as the plow hook up looks....it was a factory installed option. The data tag has it stamped as optional equipment. For my intents and purposes, the plow attachment will be coming off....the truck has already served it's duty and now it's off to a comfy retirement.

The search for a bed has turned up empty so far....seems the only ones offered are out west. There is one guy in Michigan that may have a lead on one, but won't know until his friend gets back from Florida in the spring. I'll keep pinging the truck sites...but traffic on those is light in comparison to this site. Craigslist and e-bay are pretty light on sweptline stuff too....anything that shows up worth pursuing is far west of the mississippi....looks like a road trip may be in my future if I can't dig anything up here.

My wife says it's ugly....but something in the way she looks at it makes me think she actually thinks it kind of cool. She likes "out of the ordinary", so I'll bet she will end up driving it once in a while. She will definitely hang the purchase price over my head to get leverage for something she wants down the road.

I finally got it home last Saturday....
The dog has already called shotgun and won't let me drive it without him. It's right at home with it's 38 year younger sibling parked right beside it.

very cool,
Enjoy both you & the dog

I'd be interested in the plow setup. Let me know if you are looking for parts we have a few of those trucks hanging around.

Jeremiah, Looks like you have some pretty nice vehicles out there....why does all the good stuff have to be about 2000 miles away.

It will be a month or so before it's nice enough to get outside and work on it, but the plow is the first thing to come off and you have dibs on it. I'll take lots of pictures before it gets dismantled.

Parts wise I'm looking for the following for a 67...I'm not sure what years interchange:
- Ashtray
- Dash Crash Pad
- Armrests
- Horn button
- Short bed (styleside)
- Tailgate
- 61-67 hood

I'm sure the list will grow as I progress.

Dave

Tailgates - '61 - '65.5 and '65.5 - '71 swap within those year groups, but not across ('62 won't fit a '67, i.e). Utiline beds (and their tailgates) swap across all years 1956 - 1986. Short wide beds swap across all years, but they changed appearance in the '65.5 mid-year style change. Earlier beds have the round taillights.

Dash crash pad showed up in the '67 model year, and are the same as the '68-9 pad. You'll need the two mounting pedestals.

'61 - '67 hood is identical. The '68 hood can be used with an earlier truck with a sheetmetal mod above the headlight "eyes".

Thanks patrick66. I knew the beds changed, but wasn't sure of the year. I was pretty sure 66 was the wide tailgate and oval taillights, but I was seeing 65's both ways. Must have run the old bed style until they ran out in 65.

That's interesting on the dash crash pad....for some reason I thought 68 and 69 were different....I thought they were full length pads. I know the 70 pad is different as is the entire dash...I'm going to try to fit my 67 dash into a 70 cab, and as I understand the side filler panels on the 70 are different (70 dash is wider). What year dash parts are interchangable with the 67?

Also, I have a 70 radiator core support. I was told this was different than the 67...my question is "how different". The 70 is a rust free California piece and I sure would like to use it with the 67 grille. I was going to do some comparison and grille test fitting this weekend to see if I can make it work. If not....that's another piece I'm in the market for as my 67 core support is swiss cheese.

You are correct, the '69 dash is the same as the '70 and '71 dashes, along with the pads. The '67 and '68 trucks were the only ones to have the pad that is mounted on a pair of pedestals. My brain hurts today.

The dashes from 1961 through 1968 are the same, except the '68 dash does not have the provision for the high-mount ashtray assembly. The '68 ashtray is mounted under the dash, just right of the contour line. Instrument clusters swap across from '61 through '68 with no issues.

The dashes for the automatic trucks are different through the years, too. The '61 - '64 trucks had the dash-mounted pushbutton shifter on the driver side of the column. In 1965, the shifter stuck out of the dashboard, just right and low off the instrument cluster, and lasted through the '68 MY. And in 1969, the shifter was relocated to the column, remaining there through 1971.

My understanding of the core supports is that '68 - '71 are the same. The four-eyed trucks ('61 - '65.5) have a unique core support, and the '65.5 - '67 is different still.

1965 meant far more than just differences in the bed, tailgate and grille frm the earlier trucks. Early trucks have the "refrigerator" door handles, while the '65.5 trucks have the normal door handles. The latch system also changed at that time, meaning that doors will not simply swap out. The later doors have a different latching mechanism and latch, meaning you have to do some welding/mods to use early doors on a later cab, and vise versa.

I will start a pile for you. No hurries on my end we are slammed as usual. Did yo uever make any headway on the 4-door?

Nice score on the truck. I sent my heater box to DMT so they should have heater box kits if you need one.
