Of all the people I've held doors for, nobody has ever taken that attitude to me.
Am I just lucky?
I'm in a state where THOSE people might be higher in numbers but I haven't encountered anyone rude.

I like the theme of the questions above, they pertain to self importance. I do try to NOT be an impediment to others. For me, it isn't a matter of perceived self importance as much as common courtesy. I feel one shouldn't be in the way of others, make matters difficult for others or cause inconvenience. I like to hold doors for others, I like carrying packages for the people that need help. Why not? You may have made a part of their day a little easier.

You got my main point, and have failed the narcissist test. Lack of common courtesy can also just be result of unawareness of one's surroundings, like the driver in the left lane putzing along and when noticing a faster driver approaching promptly moves over and stays over.

As I have aged, I have noticed people holding the door open for me more often, and I think they are older than I am.
Not sure who or where to complain, I can open the door myself.

Courtesy and manners are part of the naturalization process for incoming yankees 'round he-ah...
I've been known to prompt strangers at stores and such to say "excuse me" or whatever is
appropriate when they fail to do so.

I've felt that unless a person is disabled or old, they shouldn't be a burden to others. Get out of the way and let others go by. I've been in the left lane and occasionally tailgated despite me driving well over the speed limit. I move over and sometimes move back. Many times, the right lane is rutted from 18 wheelers and it isn't fun to drive in for any length of time.

I'm confident enough in myself that I don't need validation from some anonymous eggheads to make me feel good about who I am.
Tests like these are just for fun, it sparks some conversation and thought.
I've considered taking some I.Q. tests as well.

It's seldom enforced, but this state has laws on the left lane - you're not to be in it unless you're in
process of passing someone, simply put.
The accompanying law, also seldom enforced, is the "slower traffic keep right" bit - and the definition
of "slower" has nothing to do with speed limits in this case.
If someone wants to go faster than you....then you are by definition the "slower traffic".

Some effing yuppie in a grey Tesla cut me off bad today on the way home from work today! I had to slam on my brakes and so did the person behind me ! Traffic allowed me to get up next to the douchebag when he changed lanes again cutting off someone else the same way,so I gave that Yuppie f&ck the one finger wave out the window until he was far out of my site after I passed him! Does that make me a narcissist?

Don't get me started on those....in my elementary school days, they were all about constantly testing kids
on such things as aptitude and IQ. Talk about giving some kids complexes, sheesh...
(I always tested first or second for the entire school and was labeled "genius" at a young age - carried a
Mensa card for several years - and you know what it got me? Nada....)

I've seen several studies recently about the increase in road rage in society - it's a very real problem these days.
Videos abound on YT about it as well - and you never know who's unhinged enough to open fire, seems like.

I was in charge of diversity training during my corporate days. My favorite scenario was squaring off a guy from one of our NYC metro terminals and a driver from Alabama or Georgia, and have them role play resolution of an unloading delay. We would go for dinner and drinks afterwards, drill down on how different regions dealt with stuff. Results were amazing, process vanished after I left.

In the 1st or second grade, I was tested too. I was told that I had the English and math comprehension of a 6th grader.
So what? I didn't go on to cure cancer or invent a cheap source of energy!
