I have a problem with my 8-3/4 rear. I had some gear oil get into the drivers side brakes so I pulled the axles to replace the seal. This is what I found on the polished area where the seal rides:

My question is what are my options? Can this be machine down to clean it up? What would be the smallest I can go? Are repair sleeves available? Thanks, Mike

clean it up and put a speedy sleeve on it clean and repack bearing and put back in

Outside the box and I can't tell from the picture, but if that area inboard is still good, you might look for a shorter seal to get you by.

Wire wheel the axle and replace the seal in the housing. I've fixed worse. I would clean the bearing out and repack it with grease.

Hoping to get away as cheaply as possible which means trying to fix what I have. It looks like the corrosion is up to where the seal rides so I did think about trimming the shell on the seal so it goes back further and rides on a clean surface. I'm gonna take it to work because I think we have a lathe there that I can take a few thousandths off to see if it will clear up but I don't want to go too far. Where can I get a speedy sleeve?
