back wheel widening

I have just purchased a set of cragars 14x6 for my 65 coronet. My son wants to put wider tires in rear. What can be done? What size tires can be placed on rear? I can place two of craters on my 64 fury. Should I order larger cravats for rear?

you can squeeze a 245 tire on a 6 inch wheel,and that is about as wide as you are gonna easily get for a 14 inch wheel.to go any bigger you will need to change to a 15 inch wheel.

It all depends on the backspace of the wheel and the diameter and cross-section shape of the tire. If your 65 is like my 64, a 15x8 with 5.5" of backspacing is going to let you get the most clearance and biggest tire.

I went with 15x7 with 4.5" backspace. Plenty of room inboard, good room outboard.

i just put new wheel vintiques steelies on the rear of my 65 15x8 with 4 1/2 backspace with a L-60 tire plenty of room to spare for bigger tire in the future if i want.
