Backfire through carb

Kern make some good points about timing. There are $15 mechanical advance limiter plates you can pretty easily in a Mopar distributor. I've got an extra one since my "newer version" Mopar electronic ignition distributor already has two screws in slots you can adjust to do the same thing....so I don't need the plate I bought.

I agreed with the 10"-12" vacuum with the .474 (or .471?) purple cam though (as a guess). I ran the 292/509 purple cam and only had about 6"-8" of vacuum at idle, but my carbs were all screwed up then....for whatever that's worth as a reference.

Worked on a Challenger w/ a 440 in it a couple months ago for a shop that was reputable.replced carb ,fuel pump, distributor , still ran like ****, sounded like it had a wicked shaft in it.pulled the rocker cover off drivers side, and checked the lift with a dial indicator, turned out it was a stock magnum shaft. checked wires ,they were all marked at the plug end, but #6 and #8 were numbered wrong,Changed the two wires and it ran like a sweetheart. Everyone presumed the were marked right because of the reputation of the shop and never checked, we all make mistakes.

Well I just saw the the fuel pressure was dropping to about 2 psi when revving it up in the garage. It has an electric but I ordered a nice mechanical 7psi pump for it. I still need to re-trace all the wires.

Didn't read old posts. 2 psi with electric pump, that's a problem. I'd bypass electric pump if you put a mechanical pump on. Don't think mechanical pump will draw through an electric pump. Have a carter pump on my car and a wire came loose and car stopped and I had a mechanical pump also. Wonder if you have an electrical problem so pump runs intermittently?
