Backspacing

On the rear. Put something flat across the wheel lip on top. Then measure from there to the mounting surface on the rim.

Keep in mind the wheel width is measured INSIDE lip to lip. But the backspacing measurement includes the lip.

So ... if you measure a 10" wheel it will be 11" wide outside to outside. And if it has 5-1/2" backspacing (advertised) it will measure 5-1/2" from the outside edge of the back rim to the axle mounting surface. And in this particular case the wheel will be centered on the axle flange - 5-1/2" both ways.

now I`ve heard everything !!!!!!
Aw c'mon, cut the guys some slack ... even though BACKspacing should have been a giveaway ! And look at it on the bright side ... he wasn't asking what + or - "offset" is (that's metric for you 'mericans)!
