So I’m looking at my 69 Charger (the Brown one in the photo) and thinking a stripe would look good (as it always does).

I notice the kits out there seemed to all include the RT badge or 500. As my car was neither (and not wanting to be pretentious), I was wondering if all Dodge installed stripes had RT or 500? I assume if you ordered an XP29 car back in the day could you choose an optional stripe. But what would it have looked like I.e. plain or something else.

Thanks for any information.

Your car looks very nice right now.

FYI, A bumble bee stripe looks terrible with body side molding like your car has.

They didn't offer bumble bee stripes on XP29 cars.

1970 R/T stripe was blank, since R/T sign was on side scoop.
That puts the wrong year stripe 9n the car. A 68 stripe was blank also. Again wrong year stripe just looks, well, wrong!

If we have a vote I say leave that beauty as it is, it's perfect!

I painted the stripe on this other 69. Thought it came out pretty well. It IS an RT!

Not perfect but pretty good.

It's your car, put the 70 stripe and it will look great. The stripe is identical to the 69 stripe, without the R/T letters on it.

I would not do it with the body side molding, and removing the body side molding might create even more problems.

Number one... you're gonna hafta remove that body side molding. Now think, how long was that molding on there ? Removing may cause damage to the paint underneath, may leave a "ghost" stripe along the entire side, or you may be lucky. So... do you feel lucky ?

I would leave it as is. I was never a fan of the body side mouldings. However, I think the rump stripe with mouldings looks even worse. One or the other.

I love the Bee stripe on 2nd-gen Chargers. I researched to find good measurements of the various specs because I wanted the stripe painted correctly. I gave the measurements to my body man who did a great job painting it in the color I wanted. I'd definitely get rid of the body side moldings if you decide to add a stripe, though. It won't look right with that molding cutting through it.

My stripe is painted on my red Charger also. It was already done when I bought the car back in the 80's

I hate those side moldings but changing that opens the can of worms that ends by painting the car. I’m trying to build a car I can drive. An expensive time consuming paint job will turn the car into a trailer queen probably.
