Iv'e decided to strip my 72 sattelite down to at least the factory primer. 2 coats of paint, anyway, what should i start with as far as grit of paper, or maybe someone knows a quicker or eseaier way of stripping this car. any inputs much appreciated guys. :edgy:

I used a what is called aircraft stripper. Use the brush on type and not the spray. Follow the directions and precautions. If you use 60 or 80 grit sandpaper it will take you hours upon hours to strip the whole car. You will want to get it down to bare metal if you can.

Yep.. what he said..LOL

If you hit the car with 36 grit real quick before you use the stripper it will work better as well. I used it all,, wire brush sand paper and a stripper from NAPA.. The stripper is the better way to do it unless you are close to Donnie..LOL

you will be really suprised how fast you can strip the car with aircraft stripper. It really is the best and cleanest way no dust and also kind of fun or gratifying. Just keep the hose or a bucket of water close by so when you get a drop on your skin you can wipe it off.

LOL a little protection goes a long way.. get some rubber/chemical gloves to use. Well worth the money. Its not just the burn but the absorbtion of the chemical... it wont kill you right away but your liver takes the damage

oh i have felt that burn!along with the striper you may want to pick up a spot blaster.works great for those hard to reach areas and you can just sweep it up when done.harbor freight has em for less then 50 bucks.

Can attest to that stuff being nasty but effective.
I was still a dumb kid in high school when had my first Coronet, thing had at least 8 identifiable coats of paint on it & used several gallons of that stuff on it. Works great but make sure you've got both skin protection & good ventilation or you'll end up high as a kite.

Dido on the stripper on both counts nasty nasty stuff but man does it do the job. You definetly want to do this outside with gloves face shield etc "IT BURNS". I actually used a power washer once after applying the stripper, you wouldn't believe how well that worked but you really have to be careful doing that "it goes everywhere". Good Luck

try duraprep prep240 from ppg paints it's a industrial coating remover, same as aircraft but doesn't burn ur skin runs about $40 a gallon. Either one works good and even better if u wrap it, buy a roll of painters plastic , brush on stripper then lay plastic over it. This will lock in the gases and keep it from drying and dripping on vertical surfaces
