I have a question I’m hoping someone knows the answer to. Is there a torque spec for the nut that holds the stock tensioner pulley with bearings to the bracket? I searched through the manual as well as this site, but didn’t see anything. Maybe there isn’t a torque requirement, but figured I’d ask here before just bolting it to engine and hoping for the best.

Any feedback is appreciated.

To clarify, I meant idler pulley.

What are you working on ?
It’s a 400 with AC for my 70 superbee tribute.

Do you have a factory service manual ? The specs are in the cooling system section.

Yes, I have factory service manual. I looked in cooling section and didn’t see it for pulley, just belts. Maybe I missed it but I thought I reviewed manual thoroughly.

You missed it. It gives you the specs for used and new belts and the fan tensioner which is what you are working with. Here is the cheat answer but look it up anyway. 40 lbs used belt, 65 lbs new belt. The manual also tells you how much belt deflection there should be as you tighten the tensioner.

I think op is asking about torque on the nut that holds idler pulley to bracket, not belt tightness.

That is exactly what I told him. The belt is not 65 ft lbs ! The idler bolt is. If someone would look it up in the FSM like I did, they would know that.

Thanks moparleo, I guess I didn’t interpret the manual correctly. I saw the new vs used belt deflection details but it wasn’t clear to me about nut on idler pulley. In my mind, the torque on the nut should be constant regardless of new or used belt.

No problem. I find that 90% of the answers to the questions that are asked on these sites are in the Factory Service Manuals. This is the first thing that anyone interested in their car should get. Most are available as free downloads.
Too many of us still tend to not read the instructions when we get something that requires assembly and then we mess something up. If we only read the instructions first we would not make as many errors as we do.
Human nature I guess.
Engine looks nice. What compressor are you using ?

I agree, the manual has helped with a lot of the questions and I thought I read it correctly in search of the answer.

It’s the stage 2 kit from classic auto air. Being this is a 70, one year only car and knowing the pain my brother went through to get correct hoses for his 70 bee I figured I’d save myself the headache and go with aftermarket kit.
