Must be a rare pump housing off a Hemi 6 pak, lol!!
Thanks for doing that Mike. What does the thermostat gasket surface look like? Sure wish 5XZZ made some sort of sense to me?
The F1X2 is another vendor variation.....That is 1st month 2nd day.......So you could say any year form 67-71....but the 1st month 2nd will not fit your build date...Day code: F1X2 ?? Another curve ball. All the other pics I've seen of housings with the Pentastar have a four digit month/day/year by the Pentastar.
The water pump housing I perceived to be original to my numbers matching engine has 9 3 on it.
My engine assembly date is 9/4/1968.
According to MMC Detroit -> LINK
Two digits can mean Month and Year, or Month and Day
Month and Day would make sense so then is there no way to tell the year?
Another possible clue is my temp sensor has M8 on it. That would seem to indicate December 1968? Could have been changed out? Who knows for sure?
Not sure if this is any help at all or confuses the issue farther. Here is a housing I took off of a 67 Chrysler 383 engine years ago. Not sure of the build date on that car but the date code on this housing is "2 X 8" I'm pretty sure it means Feb 8th and has to be 1967 since it was on a 67 model car, it can't be Feb 1968. It has the fratzoid and not the pentastar so could not be 69If it helps narrow down the casting vs assembly date & time frame periods.....my ‘69, #s matching 383....block casting date is 12-4-68, was assembled 2-13-69, casting date of water pump housing 2-11....”2 days” prior to engine assembly.......the temp sensor is 1-69. Sounds like your original housing. Don’t know how bad the saw marks are, but I’ve had success with JB weld on small engine casting defects. Anyway I’m not an expert in any of this stuff, but hope the info helps....Jim

I could check some of mine if need be. Kim
It is an interesting code, looks like a Hemi Head Date format. Month F=May, Day 1, Year 72. If they were making them in 72 for the parts. Or that could be a Year Code F=70 and Jan 2.Day code: F1X2 ?? Another curve ball. All the other pics I've seen of housings with the Pentastar have a four digit month/day/year by the Pentastar.
A appreciate everyone’s comments and opinions. This is a great forum with great people willing to offer help.
Anyway, I’ve decided I’m going to take the two following actions.
1) I will keep an eye out for the premo restorers pump housing with the clearly identified third quarter 1968 date code and in good shape.
2) At this point, I have little to loose in trying to repair what I perceive to be the original to the car housing.
I think both ways will be a win-win.
