Just curious if anyone knows if the engine sound in the scene where Jake revs the engine and charges the IL Nazis who jump off the bridge is from a real 440?

Sounds very Ford-ish to me.
I’d have to say idk for sure, but I love that movie! I kinda think it is, one with stock exhaust will still rumble..

Sounds too good to be a Ford...that would be sacrilidge! The cars they used were real Mopar cop cars. They sure destroyed a lot of Dodges in this movie.
I don’t have mine running currently, but I will say my wife could hear mine 1-2 miles away with stock hemi mufflers when she was outside... weather was just right the sound will carry, but she said it has a very distinctive low rumble! My engine was 100% stock too..
At the time they set the world's record for the most cars ever crashed in a movie. It may still stand.
I'm well aware of what they used, young lady - but sound effects are sound effects and it's obvious that
scenes' audio isn't "live" with the car exhaust, but "canned" in editing later.
To answer your specific question, that particular scene's engine sounds are NOT like any 440 I've ever heard
(and I've owned plenty of 'em - including now!).
Agree, a V8 pontiac stock eliminator car sounds like a garbage truck with a miss, until the scoreboard lights up then it appears it was moving pretty good.Engines have "cadences" to them, especially back in the 60s and 70s.
Fords sounded like Fords; GMs sounded like industrial junk; Mopars sounded AWESOME.
