Broke a pushrod, looking for advice

It is hard to judge from a picture, also the final push rod that will be used might be a bit smaller in diameter on the cup as the adjustable unit seems very thick walled at the cup.
If you are going to use hydraulic lifters get the push rod length at the smallest recommended pre-load setting, once received you still have the availability to increase the pre-load by lengthening that adjuster and get a little more clearance between push rod cup and rocker arm if required.
That oiling hole will be able to squirt some oil on that adjuster, on some brands the oiling hole sits lower than that.

To keep it as close to the rocker is indeed best for geometry, though even better would be a cup-style adjuster and a ball/ball push rod with internal oiling channel.
This brings the swiveling point even closer to the rocker and the oiling hole no longer is critical for oiling.
