ok guys i broke the rearend yoke on my car saturday afternoon anyways I ordered a new replacement chomemoly yoke and a new crush sleeve and seal, anyway anyone have any suggestions on installing the new crush sleeve and how much torque? Thanks for any help.....

Send the crush sleeve back and get the crush sleeve eliminator kit. Measure the length of the factory crush sleeve and use the shims in the eliminator kit to get the correct distance and brg. preload 12-15 inch lbs and your golden.

You need to remove and disasemble the diff to set the preload right...

MAKE sure you note the backlash BEFORE you just start playing with things, there is a procedure for removing end yokes and you could have avoided all this if you did that 1st.

Does any one know if the 741 case uses a crush sleeve or shims? I recently had a guy swap yokes on this 3rd member, and it seems to be working ok. Oh, Supershafts, where can I find the procedure for removing and replacing the yoke properly? Ok thanks.

ok thanks for the help guys i will get the eliminator coming. Thanks

741 use's shims.

As Gary said, note the backlash first, then you can get into it. Measure the original crush sleeve length and that will get you in the ballpark for the eliminator/shims.

The 42 also uses shims....only the 89 uses that damn crush sleeve....as far as the 8 3/4 goes.

Well it wasn't me, Supershafts said to check the back lash first, lol. So looks like Snoman has the 489 case then? So is it ok to just change the yoke on the shim type 741 and 742 case? And tighten the heck out of the pinion nut? And then can run it without any other adjustments? Thanks, Gary.
