This has got to be my biggest most untolerable part of building a mopar. Some yahoo or famous name(foose, strope, etc) builds an unbelievable mopar only to put ford 9 inch in the rear. I just want to slap the taste out of their mouth when they do that.

I can put up with the alterkation, rms or cap front suspension, but under no circumstance should there be a 9 inch in the rear. If the 8 3/4 isn't good enough for them then use a dana 60 or go for the trick moser 8 3/4 fabbed housing with your choice of centers 741,742,489. Am i wrong or does this bother anyone else???:edgy:

sure...what?

sure....

it pisses me off.....

they also referred to it as an 8.25

So why do people use the 9 inch instead of the 8 3/4 in these high end builds??

I won't argue with that.

Maybe I'm just too old school or whatever, but it bunches my undershorts a whole lot more to see donk wheels on a nice, old MoPar than it does to see a a flippin' 9"... You can route a whole bunch of horsepower to the ground through a 9"...not sure the same can be said for donk wheels...

amen to that

I run a 9" under my GTX with ladder bars. 9" diffs are strong, dependable, plentiful, and easy to get parts for. Not to mention the extra pinion bearing. And no, I haven't seen many 8.75's come apart, but I've seen even fewer 9" come apart. And to be honest, I've seen alot more Dana 60's fail. Anyway, how many 8.75's or Dana's do you see under Ford or GM muscle cars?

Back in my circle track days, I found out that a 9" ford loses more H.P. than a 8 3/4". I ran a Mopar car and I also kept it ALL mopar by running a 8 3/4" with a 6.20 gear. I never broke an axel or a gear all the years I ran.

Just my thoughts.

If a Ford 9'' bothers people, this one would really piss you off

Heres one that I bought way back in 1975 the barracuda had a Ford 9'' 4:11 (Note shackels hated those things) rear end, 413 w/dual quads, 4spd and a Chevy straight axle. It was a very healthy ride, just didn't turn very well. As with most cars I've had, I wish I would have kept this one too . I did buy a 8 3/4 for it but traded the car off before installing it, it worked out down the road when I built my 440 Duster and used the 8 3/4.

This was the only oddball I had, well unless you count the Buick V6 in a Vega, Ford running gear in a 1929 Nash or the Chevy engine in my 41 Dodge. Ok, I guess I did have some other oddballs.

Still have that 1941 Dodge?
We have a '41 Dodge 2-door sedan powered by a supercharged 360 with an A-883 4-speed and an 8-3/4 rear under it.
How about that Dodge Coronet in the background??

I don't like when everything is body colored. :soapbox:
Body colored bumpers, mirror(s), wheels, grille(s), shakker if equip'd, spoiler(s) if equip'd, just make the cars look cheap(er?) in my opinion.
Those different pieces in their non body colored correct argent/chrome really helps them stand out and breaks up the solid color of the body.
If they have to be painted for some reason at least use silver, it looks better than black or body color.

Yes, I realize you could get body colored elastometric bumpers, mirrors, grilles, and even shakkers, but in my opinion they are still ugly.

Yes this is just my opinion, yours will probably differ.

The Hemi was the top hosrepower motor back in the day and cars came equiped with the 8 3/4 so why not use them today? They lasted back then even with the tapered axle(ughhhh), but they lasted. Then came the Dana 60 and that "was the axle to get" but these days it seems the 9 inch is all the rage with these "builders". This is just my way of ranting, and it's just my opinion so don't let me sway you to the good side of the force.

the Dana is heavy and does not have a removable 3rd member --- the 9" is arguably stronger than the 8 3/4 Mopar differential... the 9" is the closest to the Dana in strength but has a removable pig that you can get damn near ANY gear ratio for... not like the 8 3/4... 2.76,2.94,3.23,3.55,3.73,3.91,4.10,4.56,5.13 is about it for the 8 3/4... Look at a list of 9" gears sometime haha

Rolling thunder you are right about the gear choices for the 9 inch. I just like to see the drive train all mopar when a mopar is built. Now if you need to use ford or chevy parts in other places, go for it
