Built vs Bought

I’m assuming you’re talking about the arrogant guy seeking attaboys and trophies.

Guys… when encountering a member that is abrasive and otherwise annoying, try the IGNORE feature. It is great. They can write all they want but you don’t see any of it.
I’m following this advice with the guy right now.
I'm proud of you KD!

I purposely target cars that run, but need some love. Non number's matching to make my own performance goals and ride.

So it's a bit bought & built. I don't have the sheet metal fabrication or the machinist skillset to go start from next to nothing beginnings.

I'm not naming anyone. Send me a PM if you want specifics. Two members recently have earned a spot on the list.
There is a guy here that wanted to berate a guy for painting his Charger to look like a General Lee..... and one guy in this thread right here.
Look, you can get your point across without making the other guy look like crap. These guys know that but they kept pushing. I don't feel compelled to read their comments anymore.
Cheers!

Just another $hit show of a thread started by Steve.
I have a suggestion Steve, maybe get with one of the Mods, Kiwi comes to mind, and figure out how to set up a poll/voting thread if you really want an answer to your question.

I wasn't trying to start anything. I was watching a drag race video of bought vs built. It was mostly early Mopars vs late model Challengers. It made me think about the bias against bought and if it was warranted. I'm certainly not against either side. I have to build mine, at least the last 25% because I can't afford an already finished car. But, on the other hand, I did not ever work as a mechanic, so there's a lot of stuff I don't know and I have to hire help.

Like replacing a vinyl top. I read some and talked to people and they said it was a horrible experience so I'll pay to have it done. I've gone through and read everyone's responses and thanked them. I peeled the old one off, sanded it down and treated the rust. That's about all I felt comfortable doing.

This is not worth getting so upset about it. We can all have opinions and that's okay.

Come on, Runner....Steve did nothing wrong.
Like him or not, Steve just tries to stoke conversation on the forum. I see nothing coming from Steve that is inflammatory or controversial.

Thanks, Runner 68 tried attacking me on this forum about 3 years ago. I proved him wrong and he hasn't gotten over it.

I read an article about the Dunnig-Kruger Effect. It explains why I ask questions.

I'll be honest, Steve...I scroll past some of your threads because they don't pertain to my interests but I don't see you as a bad guy or a rabble rouser.
It is the contributing members that make a forum interesting. If most people just lurked, this site would be humorless and boring.

How about we end the bullshit now Steevo. Just start a poll if you really want an answer to your original post.
Not sure how one get's "attacked" on an online forum unless one has no spine.

I prefer building them, but there is something to be said for buying them too. I have twenty plus project Mopars, some of them are running and driving, infact this year was the first time in years that I had to get other people to take some of my cars to shows, but I bought the Corvette, and did some work to it last winter to get it roadworthy after it sat for five years, and I drove the schit out of it this season. It is a bucket list car for me,and I have a few other bucket list cars that if I could find them in close to driver condition like the Corvette was,I would sell off a couple of project vehicles and have another turn key driver.

I think this approach is a good compromise, and perhaps the most economical. I have a close friend with outstanding fabrication and mechanical skills. We've analyzed the costs of his builds, which have great craftsmanship. Not cheap. He is extremely well off, no kids, and can afford to be an artist. I have another friend with similar skills. He put his kid through college, with no student loans. He couldn't afford a project, or a done car. I've recommended he get something in the middle when he retires.

There is something to be said for a car that will run 10 second quarter mile runs, goes 203 mph and can be driven across country and back with the AC on though.

Uhhh….”It’s a girl my lord in a flatbed Ford, slowing down to take a look at me”.

There is a robust person standing on the corner and no Ford truck around.

I know. That’s why I left the “flatbed ford” OUT of the song lyrics quote.
Maybe I AM the robust person , maybe I’m the bronze statue or driving the Plymouth or……what does it matter anyway
