Bumper moving time

I decided to buy a bigger compressor and borrow my friend's portable soda blaster to to the grills

Painting the bumper supports then onto prepping the grills for paint. It's a long process well I made it a long process if I'm going to take every thing off I can't stand putting rusty nuts, washers, bolts and parts back on.

I started installing the brackets back on the front bumper I love how it turned out. Tomorrow I'm going to put the grills back in and install it back on the car to see how much I have to trim the headlamp shields.

The last 2 days I've been modifying the head light shields. These are the plastic ones not the originals if your going to move your front bumper in get ready to do a lot of cutting on them if your using the plastic ones I don't know about the originals. I was able to close the gap to under 3/8" (.375) I started out with just cutting 1/4" or so off to see how close I was I couldn't even fit them over the headlights. I had to take the bumper off again take them off the grills and cut another 1/4" off . They finally fit over but there are some gaps between the head light and the shield but it won't be noticed much because the will be black. if I don't like it buy another set and try a different approach which I figured out after the fact oh well live and learn. I added some pics to show the tools I used to scribe and cut I did use a dremel.

there not close to original they don't flex like originals . Okay let's call them Repros lol

Yes I know it was a joke LOL! I have read that on previous threads and seriously thought on buy or not. I bought a set just because I had to but they are in Vzla right now and I’m in Spain so I still haven’t had in hands yet.

Wow! That looks so much better. Great job! Did you happen to measure how much longer you made the slots? I'm sure that would save others a lot of time test fitting.

It's looking great. Thanks for documenting this.
Your welcome I felt like I could find bits and pieces on how to do it but really a step by step process I couldn’t find . I told my self when you do this you have to document it there’s a lot of guys that want to do this but just don’t how to do it or not sure where to start.

Thanks for posting this Doug. I think I'm going to make the plunge with my 73 too. They look much better tucked in.

Finished painting the front end just waiting for it not to rain so I can finish soda blasting my grills so far they look awesome after doing that process.
