Burned out (NOT burn out) Superbird at IAAI (For auction, not mine)

Good Morning

We had been watching this car for a while and came across this forum talking about it, I wanted to let everyone know that we were the successful bidder on the car and plan to do a restomod to it with a Demon engine and modern suspension.

I do need to come up with a plan for the VIN though, if anyone has any ideas PM me :)

Britt
Was the vin plate melted? Chiseled off?

Is there not a fender tag on it.. sure looked like it in the picture. Should also be a VIN label on the jam of the drivers side door..

While i personally would love to see it restored back to factory specifications, this sure sounds like fun car.
If you go that route i would consider getting a schwartz performance or roadster shop chassis built.

And then i would take it on the autobahn (in your case a high speed track) because high speeds are ultimately what this car has been built for and with a modern drivetrain like that you can utilize every bit of that aero treatment!

Welcome, please keep us informed.
When you say "we were the successful bidder", can you tell us who "we" is? Are you a company or group of people?

question for the experts........since building a restomod has nothing to do with originality; could not a restomod SB be constructed using a solid, complete, unburned base Satellite, Sport Satellite, or RR for much less money and hassel?........ starting out at 70K and needing almost everything doesn't seem the way to go IMO

Agree. Homer Simpson did it right.

To each, his own, but please consider NOT taking a real SB and turning it into a restomod! As mentioned, that can be accomplished without using one of these rare birds. Additionally, the restomod most likely will cut down your pool of buyers, if you choose to sell it. Just my opinion.

Adding the SuperBird rear window framework IS a fair amount of hassle, this car already has that part done. From some angles, this car didn't look that terrible.

Welcome to the site!

There's a wealth of information on here and members that know these cars inside out. Hit the "Welcome Wagon" to introduce yourself.

Congratulations on your winning bid. You're going to get a lot of "others opinions" on your build so have a thick skin. You know what your plans are so have an open mind on what might be said. Start a build thread under "Members Projects and Restorations" so we can follow along. Good luck, looking forward to watching the transformation which ever way you decide to go.
