Calif Homeowner's Insurance up 42.5% From Last Year

How about auto personal property taxes. I received my assessment for all our vehicles yesterday. My old cars were pretty much the same although I’m appealing one. But I noticed our two daily drivers, a 12 Highlander and a 30 Lexus RX350 had shot way up in valuation over last years assessment. I emailed the lady, playing dumb, and asked her what’s up with this? She wrote back a long reply about supplier shortages were slowing new vehicle production, creating shortages, and that in turn was driving up used car values and they had to use current values out of NADA or something.

I replied, I was afraid of they. But our President says this is just transitory inflation so these hikes should all reverse any day now and fall back to where they were before.

She didn’t reply.

In all my years I have never paid much personal property tax on one of my old cars. Now they want the mileage in order to say the car may be old, but worth more than some old Junker. It may seem petty, but the little guy is where the money is if you pick his bones clean.

We did scrutinize our bills and removed things we didn't want to pay for.

For example, the rentals had $80,000 in "contents" insurance.
Changed that to the minimum offered.
Bill went down.

Big reason for increases in Florida were SHYSTER roofing contractors who shim shammed the Insurance companies to pay for new roofs for the Takers in our society claiming Hurricane damage...... ALLL of us get to pay now
Atlas Shrugged
PS.. AND the shyster lawyers helped with this too...

Oklahomans see door-to-door roofing salesmen fairly often, regardless of the weather. Lot's of people getting roofs replaced before they're damaged before the replacement coverage expires due to the age of the shingles.

Somewhere years ago, I read that "Insurance Companies own 2/3rds of the wealth in this Country."
When you think about all the wealthy individual millionaires and business Billionaires along with the rest of us and realize we only add up to 1/3 of the wealth, it is pretty scary. Makes it hard to feel sorry for them. Seems like I pay high premiums on everything I own. I just hope I never have to make a claim and find out how under insured I really am. Been pretty lucky so far.

What is REALLY sad is Insurance companies LEGALLY meet every year and set rates.. ANY other company doing that would be Collusion and would be shut down or someone would go to jail... I wonder which Congress or Senator gets paid for that law????

It's a "legal" mafia-type extortion protection racket...
Pay us or else...

think about it

fucken' pisses me off, what they do & can get away with
sometimes/most of the time

As someone that actually lives here & knows the facts
not just posted because of dislike of Calif. etc.

Exactly their reason why...
'sort of'

& Our govt. here, powers to be
aiding/allowing the Insurance companies
to get bailed out/recoup funds they finally had to pay out
after years of not having to...
They get a guaranteed 17% profit...
Raised via raised Homeowners Insurance rates...
Lobbyist doing what they do...

follow the $$$ it never lies

instead of fixing the problem of not managing the forest floors
& letting logging do what they do, cut fire breaks/cut roads,
then stack & burn off slag/brush, controlled burns in piles
as part of their deal to get logging contracts

They lose...
Lack of tax bases, from not getting the lumber or wood sales Billions $$ etc.
or taxes from payroll income, of all the truckers & mills, mill workers, loggers
"all the lumber from here has been grown to harvest for lumber
hasn't been any old-growth logging in decades
so that can't be a good excuse, they don't let them log"

fucken' idiots

it's all eco-Nazi/extremist or ecologists-activist,
paid insurance Lobbyists & eco lobbyists BS

vicious circles/cycles
especially if you live in a mill town
lumber & logging employes, trucking, diesel sales, mill workers
(or used to employ now)
10's of thousnads across the state, if not 100,000 here...

stepping over dollars to save nickles, appease their minority base

if you have your house "financed"
you have lil' to no choice, to pay, pmi's & fire insurance
or sell & move, to another shithole somewhere else
if you own it outright you set your own limits on liability
& replacement costs ...

The whole west, west of the great plains
the Rockies & West, Snake River Idaho, to the Cascades & Sierras
to LA/Malibu (winds down there) was on fire, the past couple of years,
so was millions upon millions of acres in Alaska,
in Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oregon (pretty damn green), Arizona, NM
even parts of Canada (also pretty damn green)

all because of most of the same type **** I listed above

Lack of fire breaks & lots of deadfall on the ground
not getting cleaned up, because of
no forest management
pulling funds away, to fund inner-shitty social reengineering projects
or some train to nowhere nobody even wanted

Most were natural causes, many fires started here was

Lightning or Arson (eco-terrorism)
that started most all of it here...

Or outright carelessness, stupidity, mowers, weed whackers,
campers not properly dousing campfires

Bark Beetle tree kills are bad too, all over the west
they removed some million+ trees just along the roads
here in Tuolumne Co. alone

I read a pretty interesting article on the fire prevention performed by the Indians long before white men settled in california. It see.s that the Indians were a whole lot smarter than the people in charge now.

Gosh what happened to them? Open borders? LOL

Sorry Joe - but where in the heck did you hear that?? I’m not defending them by any means - but your statement is absolutely completely untrue. I’ll say it again - 35 years with the biggest of them. Jointly setting rates is just not done anywhere in the country. We had to set rates individually and would spend monumental resources trying to get it right - at least for whatever Co I was working for at the time. What we did do was scout every legitimate competitor to us to find out what their current rates were and put ourselves w/I that group. We got our info from the agents/brokers we worked with and also from what the Insurance Dept had to disclose. But the Insurance Dept rates only told us “base rates” nothing about what factors each company applied to those base rates to get their final rate. No company was EVER going to disclose to another what their rates were. I spent half my I’ve engineering this stuff so I do know of what I speak.

There is a lot of BS that flies about what Ins cos do and don’t do by those that really have no idea. Do I like paying these rates - Hell no - but at least I know from where they come.

I read ‘somewhere’ ‘years ago’. Lol. If you want a pov to have credibility site actual references. Otherwise this is all hearsay or rumour…..

"That's a pretty nice_______ (car, house, business) you got there......be a shame if anything were to happen to it..."

I wonder if any of these homeowner insurance and property and personal property tax hikes make it into any of the inflation rate calculations they report monthly. I doubt it but don’t know.

Inflation is just up 3,8% according to http://usinflationcalculator.com
The CPI is a joke.

It purposely excludes items like energy (heating oil, electricity, gasoline) and food, "because their pricing is too volatile".

Bullshit.

Look at YOUR budget (does anyone besides me actually track their monthly expenses?), and tell me your expenses have only gone up 3.8%. I dare you.

I figured it out from a screenshot of item increases (meats, gas, poultry, things like that) and I think it was closer to 27%. THAT, is more accurate for most households.

I'm thinking it's the cost of rebuilding now that has the greedy ins. ones out worried about reduced profits! my best friend is a custom home builder and when we were discussing current costs canadian and he found out I only had .5mil on the house he said he couldn't built it now for less than $650k! I was going by the old $150sq. cost and he's now saying likely $220-$250sq. rural and $300sq. in the city.
speaking of inflation, i just looked at my bank statement 11K out last month and my mortgage is $800 and all i did was go for a few sled rides and bought the boys a couple lunchs and we had wings/beer not wagyu/Don julio
