Is there a way to identify what cam in in a assembled engine?

You can get the lift and duration numbers with a degree wheel and dial indicator, but it takes some work...and even then you only have the specs of what it's actually doing, not the manufacturer or part number. Unless you get lucky and they have it marked on the end of the camshaft itself.

just run a compression check and run it on the dino will give you a torque curve- you can go from there

Check on the end of the camshaft. sometimes there are numbers on them. Google and you may find it. I found out the cam in the rebuilt engine for my 71 runner was a Thumper cam this way. good luck.
