The box thats placed on the underside between the rear window and trunkhood. Its not for a defroster cause thats further in inside a speaker hole.
 
Do you see a place to hook a vent hose to. Yes, the speaker is where the motor gets its air from the goes to a vent in the package tray to clear the window.
 
If you're talking about the boxed sheet metal, it's a structural support for the rear of the dutchman panel.
 
It's a 68-70 Charger thing.
 
Just cut it out,you dont need it. Its only taking up room for your woofers :lol:
 
I had a thread here about that a few years ago. The consensus then was the same. It is a rather elaborate support for the Dutchman panel. Nobody could state why it had to be so robust when other cars had no such support of that measure for that area.
The Coronets and Satellites had a curved Dutchman that, due to the curved design, was naturally stiffer. The wide and flat Charger Dutchman may have needed that level of support to resist distortion and vibration.

Coronet convertible has a similar support but even more robust... Probably because they know people are going to sit up there parade style....
