I have a 63 Fury with a 361. It came with a 383 4-barrel manifold 2205968 and a Carter afb 9637 carb. The carb is for Ford linkage has been modified to “sort of “ work. I assume that the original 2-barrel carb and manifold were replaced. I have attempted to rebuild the carb but it runs super rich and idles poorly. My confidence to make this carb work is low. I have lots of spark and a new tank and fuel line.

I am ready to abandon this carb in favour of an original AFB that has Mopar throttle linkage and bolts on to my manifold.

I also have explored getting a new manifold for Holley or Edelbrock carb.

My goal is to have reliable cruiser. At the very most I would go dual exhaust as an performance upgrade.

I would appreciate any recommendations.

Welcome.

Something like an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold and an Edelbrock 1406 600cfm with electric choke should be trouble free and pretty much bolt on and go. Both can be found used from time to time to save money.

Dual exhaust with no larger than 2.25 pipes and mufflers of your choosing would be a nice upgrade.

Points or electronic ignition? Either way a properly set up timing curve is worthwhile. Member @HALIFAXHOPS can be extremely helpful with that.

Thanks for the quick reply!!

EBay has both of your recommends at good prices!

Would I need a new gasket for the intake manifold as well?

Yes, you would need a new intake manifold gasket (some people reuse them). Honestly, I think your 383 4-barrel intake is just fine & I would suggest only changing the carburetor. Either the 600 cfm Edelbrock as mentioned or a 600 cfm Holley carburetor, either one. Then, you’d only need a carburetor to intake manifold gasket

Would I need an carburetor to manifold adapter for the edelbrock or Holley?

I prefer the AVS2 650 to the 600,you'll need Edelbrock's 1481 linkage adapter. Any will probably be a little rich out of the box.I've had to tune a 600,650,and 800,all ran out of the box but needed leaned out. Nothing will be perfect for your combo unless you make it that way.Fortunately they're east to tune, except for those little Jesus hairpin clips, damn old fingers!

Don't forget to check the float levels, they're often wrong. Also you can buy refurbished units from Edelbrock. customer returns that have been gone through by a human.
If I live long enough to buy another, that's what I'll do.

That manifold has the small bolt pattern. An edelbrock carb has both patterns, so it will fit the studs, but a spacer might be needed. A holley would need an adapter.
