Did 1969 engines have casting dates on the side I think they did but wanna make sure-- that would include the Hemi
Well, yes and no. Blocks were cast first, then machined, assembled, and installed. All before the build date of the car. Casting dates can be within a week or more up to a month or more prior to the build date.so a 69 casting date would beright a 70 car so a 68 casting date would be correct for a 69 car does that sound right
If you think of the logistics of how the factory inventory and warehousing may work, they don't rotate their stock. The ones in the back of the storeroom are the oldest. Depending on how busy thy are, those older blocks may take some time to get used up. In your case, a year old casting got machined, assembled and installed.Or in the case of my car......13 months prior. March '67 cast, April '68 assembly.
What else was interesting was when I removed the engine the first time back in '04, other than the hand painted lettering for piston sizes there was a large hand painted 67 on the drivers side of the block. I can only guess it may have been a visual aid showing it was older inventory. If you think of the logistics of how the factory inventory and warehousing may work, they don't rotate their stock.
