Electric radiator fan died today but wiggled wires and got back home in one piece. This four wire connector was very, very hot. Here is what I found.

No problem fuse will take care of it, right, nope.

This is a 30 Amp unbroken fuse. Check your fuses

PS: These were not cheap. I don't skimp on electrical parts

Is this a situation where fusible links would be more beneficial?

Wow. Inspection time. Ma Mopar factory thermal cools mine though.

Personally I don't think that plug you show can handle a sustained 30A load.I always use dielectric grease on everything anymore also; too many yrs working on semi's.

Even the spade connectors for the fuse are not really enough for 30A either. That fuse melted due to the spade connection getting too hot. You may need to go up to the next style fuse.

I would suspect the blades were not making very good contact with the male receptacle and began to arc causing a total meltdown. The fuse holder you have is a no-no in any application and been known to arc badly. You need a mega fuse instead of that. You actually had double arcing from poor electrical contact.

You got to check how many amps that fan motor is pulling to generate that much heat. Bad connections can be a problem, but also the weak link if motor is pulling to many amps.

So, it's the holder not the fuse? I have a number of those green 30 amps in my upgraded fuse box from West Marine. One blew when putting too much electronic stuff into the lighter. Blue tooth, dash cam, Valentine 1, Garmin.

Fuse was in car when I got it. Will change style to mega fuse when I find one.
