I have a chance to score an 833 with flywheel and hurst competion plus shifter locally. The seller says it is from a 77 440. ?????? The pics he sent show the shifter mounted at the front of the tail housing. Can't tell if it has one or two mounts. Looks like an iron case, not aluminum. Traces of light blue paint. The pics show H 3 991289 on the casing. The shifter is set up for a bolt on stick and not a factory bayonet type. Can anybody tell me anything about this unit? If really a 77, it would be a truck non-overdrive piece. I think that if so it is just as good as a late 60s B-body unit, just not as desireable as it is a truck piece and not correct for a car. Any input would be appreciated!

Here is a pic of mine, its out of a 70 Challenger, look anything like the one you may get, its cast iron will work in B or E body.. Hope this helps some.

Picked it up yesterday. Nose of the input shaft had been butchered to fit a late model 440 that wasn't drilled for the pilot bearing, but a replacement came with it. The input bearing retainer had been welded on where the nose meets the base. Long tailshaft with only the front shifter mount. Got the tranny complete with shifter and linkage, replacement input shaft, flywheel, fork boot, trans bolts, rod from Z-bar to clutch pedal for a buck fifty. Tomorrow I'll clean it up, check numbers and post photos.

I'm told that this came out of a 71 Road Runner, but 1) it has the older style side cover with ball and detent mechanism, and 2) the tailshaft has only the front mount. Is this an earlier B body piece?

With only one shifter mount its most likely from a B-body, The numbers on it should tell you what it came from, i cant remember which ones is which but try this guy, he might be able to help you with some info. his name is Brad Powell and you can email him.. Here is the link to his site.
