Sad tale...

thinning the gene pool seems to be happening more & more...

Gotta feel sorry for the Millenials. Some don't have the ******* brains to even stay alive. My experience - three times - is if a millenial has a car that does not start, first check to see if it is Park before getting the jumper cables. Their whole world is inside a hand held screen. Poor bastards.

How retarded does someone have to be to do that? It's natural selection. Because he didn't know how to use a car properly, if he wasn't killed, somebody else likely would have been killed eventually. I'm in the younger generation, and it pisses me off more than anything when drivers aren't responsible i.e. texting while driving, reading a book while driving (yes I have ridden with somebody who does that) and not using their turn signals and what not. I especially hate it when those annoying 4 cylinder cars pull out in front of me and it takes them half an hour to get up to speed! I was on the highway last friday going 70 mph (thats the speed limit here) when a guy in a honda civic pulled right out in front of me. Thank heavens my brakes were up to the challenge.

Now it appears that Jeep has a recall for "Potential Parking gear" error

And, it goes on and on....

So, maybe he was not as dumb as some think?

probably the first time he's been held accountable for his actions and it kills him.

The shifter is a turd! I have one and can see how it will kill people. Ive never had to at the gear selector to know what gear my car is in! The problem with this shifter is there is no physical relation to the shifter location and the gear its in! say what you will, its a failure.

After reading the article, I agree.

OK, so who was in control of Chrysler when this appeared. The Germans or the Italians?

I had a rental Jeep JC with this shifter and it was garbage. In addition to the above comments, moving the selector 1 'gear' or 2 gave the same feedback. Virtually impossible to know what mode you were in without looking at either the shifter or the dash gear indicator.

Then it would be wise to LOOK before walking behind the Jeep?

Well, yes. But the point is it's unnecessarily confusing and a terrible design. It's easy for me, having first-hand experience with one, to see why the NHTSA is concerned.

I never had it roll back on me personally, so clearly it's something that can be learned and adapted to, but that doesn't mean it's not unnecessarily dangerous and easy to make a mistake with. Check one out sometime if you get the chance.

1981, i had a GMC Sprint(Elk) drop itself out or park.....was funny ****.
Dropping GF at Her house, which was on a semi busy, wide artery...Pima st.......kurbings were very high....and in front lawn of house, was a speed limit sign.....driveway , to side of house was about 25 ft long, angled some, towards street. Pull in driveway, up to carport, threw it in park, got out with Lynne, standing in carport with back to car, saying bye, i notice the engine getting quieter, turn around and the sprint is backing out the driveway....i run after it, its building some momentum going downhil to street, at threshold of driveway, i got a hold of driver door handle, but its like cartoon legs flailing to keep up with car, hits the street and begins an arc to right, out in street car does a full 180 and is headed back towards front lawn of house, big picture window in house....i still cant get the door open, hanging on to keep up, rear wheels hit the high kurb, car jumps kurb, takes out speed limit sign, & thankfully slowed enough, i got door open and got in just in time to brake and stop car from going through picture window into living room. Turns out Her landlord jumped for joy because He had been trying to get city of Tucson to remove the eyesore speed limit sign from His front lawn for some time......city never replanted it. The initial rush, when saying goodbye, and hearing the engine get quieter, tirning around and seeing car backing up...ill never forget it...if it had been caught on video, would be a classic. So, i never leave a car running w/o e brake firmly engaged.......the E brake covers all doubt......never rely on the gear selector alone
