The pictured radio was sold though the Mopar Accessories line. These were available through Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth/Dodge Truck dealerships and other Mopar retailers. The pictured unit was made August 16, 1983.
The radio uses Chrysler's 2-DIN format with the two screw mounting (upper right side, and lower left bottom, facing the radio). Chrysler introduced this format in the 1974 C-body cars, followed in 1975 in B-bodies and trucks. The later F, M, J-bodies all used this format as did the G-bodies and P-bodies, plus others.

The mounting format was used into the early 2000s on several models with some screw mount relocations in later years.
In 1984, the wiring was semi-standardized with two multi-connection plugs:
This wiring format was also used on many models through the 1990s. Using aftermarket adapter plug harnesses, a later radio can be installed into earlier models:
Using the aforementioned adapter harnesses, I have installed a radio from a 1997 Dodge truck into my 1979 Newport:
Physically, it bolted right into the 1979 opening and mount positions. The harnesses allowed adapting to the 1979 wiring.
