Should a clutch fan spin freely or should it have resistance? Can you replace the bearing if necessary?

Should have resistance, make about 3 rounds with fair amount of effort to rotate, not overdoing it.

It depends on what type it is. The thermostatic type varies with temp. These have a bi-metal coil on the front. The straight viscous ones don't. Both types should be fairly stiff when cold. Thermostatic spins a little more freely when roasting hot. If they spin really freely, it's time to replace. You cannot put parts in them.
