Discovered the pivot tab on my clutch fork broke off. Has anyone replaced the fork without removing trans? I don't have a boot there but no sure I could get bearing clips on new fork and in bell housing slot (for pivot tab) but wondered if anyone had luck with pulling trans.

Thanks

trans out, I cant see any other way, but I could be wrong

I have done it. The top clip is kind of a bear, but it is possible.

Yes, I did it on my 64 Dodge. I replaced the tab on the bellhousing and installed the correct fork. It is tedious, but if I can do it half blind, you can do it too....................MO

Mine broke too, my friend John was able to change it out. Not a fun job. Thought the clutch failed. Luckily we were in San Jose when it happened. AAA tow to the house.

I have done it on the car. In fact someone put a tremec 5 speed behind a crate hemi in a 70 Road Runner. Car belongs to an acquaintance of mine . Wanted me to fix it for him. Whoever did the retrofit screwed everything up. They mashed the trans right up against the tunnel without making mods to the body. The crossmember was crooked, and the clutch torque shaft and fork geometry was way off. Could hardly push the pedal in. I pulled out the fork, with trans and clutch in place. I had to remove the bracket that bolts to the inside of the bell housing and accepts the fork clip. Then I fabricated a new bracket from angle iron to make the geometry correct. Also had to relocate the adjustment shaft inboard on the fork to get the correct angle. I made all these mods while the car was on my lift with trans and clutch in place.

Thanks all. I had thought it "should" be able to be accomplished with trans in place but had one of those sinking feelings it would be unattainable by just a smidge somewhere...you know, Murphy's Law.

Thanks

had the end break off a clutch fork on a '68 Charger 440. swapped out the fork with the trans in.
