Just checked with Hagerty who will not let me drive my 1970 Roadrunner to work when completed and my regular daily driver needs to be no older than 5 years. I need someone who will insure a project car and parts while it is being completed and not tell me where I can drive it when done. I have State Farm and they will not touch it except for a few thousand dollars of coverage. Anyone have a company they recommend? It needs to go out for a headliner and glass installation. Getting to much money in it and I am starting to worry!

I have Hagerty and have all my old junk, running or not insured through them. Never heard of the 5 yr old daily driver rule. All they said is I had to show regular coverage for a daily driver. Another Hagerty agent said that if I drive my old car to work then to a show right after (like most people do) they don't get upset about that. A lot of Fri night cruise ins that people want to attend and not everyone can go all the way back home to swap cars. One thing they do say is as soon as you hit the track your coverage ends. Hey, your mechanic or body shop might be near work too. So far no complaints with Hagerty from my end.

I've been a very happy Grundy Worldwide customer for several years now. Agreed value, great customer service, terrific price, a fairly nonrestrictive yearly mileage limitation, and good claims history from what I've heard (not me -- but I'm knocking on wood I never have to find out :D). The thing I like best about Grundy is that all of my yet-uninstalled parts are also covered regardless of where they are physically located while in storage. They only needed a few pictures to write the policy.

I'd highly recommend the company to any classic car owner.

I have Haggerty's on my 72 Coronet. My daily driver is a 2002 Toyota Tundra. If I want to drag race it and wreck it not covered with the insurance. Otherwise I'm good. I don't drive it every day either.

Good to know. Always nice to have a back door!

I've been using JC Taylor for about 20 years. First just my Road Runner, but recently added my Scamp. I think they all say you can't use the classic car for daily transportation - including driving to work.

I use Tripple AAA they started to insure classic cars. Really the best deal that I found. Guaranteed 30,000 for a total loss and also they do insure if the car is non op or being restored. They cover just like all the major players Hagerty,JC,Grundy. Oh ya it was only 148.00 for the whole year.

JC Taylor. Inexpensive. Agreed at 25k for the Coronet.

Safeco...not to pricey and all you really need is a stated value and a couple of photos. One thing I like about Safeco is that where we live the cars are not used for 6 or more months a year and I can drop collision and just leave comprehensive on them while they are not in use. That saves quite a bit of money over a good portion of the year.

Thanks! I am going to check out the names given. Hagerty just seemed like they are trying to keep my car off the road as much as possible.

I am using Classic Collectors, Infinity Insurance Co. 800-334-1661, was cheeper than all the rest I priced and recently paid quick on a tow bill I had.

Just for your information Farmers Insurance is a nationwide company owned by the big international Zurich out of Switzerland. Farm Bureau is a completely different company that typically only insures in the more rural areas.

I'm an insurance guy and would recommend one of the big carriers that specialize in classic car coverage. The company you were using doesn't do that hence they didn't want the car. Stick with those that know what they're doing and know how to adjust a claim. I.e Haggerty, Grundy etc. there are plenty of choices above.

Good info here. Might have to check some of these companies out.

I have my '93 Mustang insured through Hagerty, and they said it was fine to drive the car to work any time I wanted...? Only conditions were no racing and it had to be garaged. Strange we're all getting different stories...

I have all my classics with hagerty, and one of my drivers is a 96 pickup, and they were fine with that. If I ever feel they are trying to hogtie my driving the car, I'll drop them like a hot potato!

State farm - you pick the value and pay accordingly. Mileage restrictions of course and must be kept in locked garage.

I have state farm for my daily drivers, but they were triple hagerty for the same car.
