Took my '72 bbody console completely apart, repaired the usual two cracks, and put everything back together. Now when latched the console door sticks up in the back as if it had a pair of air shocks installed. Using the slots on the hinge helped a little but still pretty far off. Don't know how it closed (or didn't) before I messed with it. If I try to bend the hinge will probably make it worse with my luck. Already tried small washers as spacers. Now I am thinking about enlarging the hinge slots. Don't know if hinge is bent, plastic is warped, or if I installed somethng backwards. Thank you.

I have seen very few that are perfect. May have been that way before you took it apart or somehow it warped depending on the process you used to repair it. Could be the install is a bit high on the on side than the other. Those little things (that drive me crazy too) you just have to mess with until it is to your satisfaction, or as I tell my wife, turn up the radio until you don't hear that rattle anymore, if you know what I mean.
Got any pics?

My only guess would be its an issue with the hex head screws, as they should be the same as the ones in the upper hinge, so I am wondering if because those look and may be a bit taller they are hitting the upper hinge when closed.

Also does not look like the lower hinge is sitting flush with the console which it should be!

Well, hmm. Several questions then. If you take the hinge off does the lid sit flush then? I ask because that is a 1971 Top console. 72-4 had the small standard Mopar ashtray. SO is it possible it is a 71 top with a 72 bottom and the just don't fit quite properly?
Something is definitely not right, as I have said I have seen them off a bit but NOT like that.
Next question did you try flipping the hinge around. Top-bottom to bottom-top?
If that doesn't do it, elongating the holes on the hinge, maybe???

The lid is black and matches the rest of the console so apparently it is a match there. Without the hinge attached, it seems to fit OK. The hinge will only go on one way, could not make it work swapping it around.

Only thing it could be then is the hinge needs to be adjusted as far down to the console as possible. Only thing it could be

When I finally resolve the problem I will return with an update (where have I heard that before?)

ODZKing, that is the screw that holds the little door-open retaining cable which has a factory notch engineered into the plastic so it does not cause interference when closing the door.
