I took out my 440 Charger today which was a hot day..I drove the car today, and when I was in traffic, the temp gauge went to 220, then just over to the next mark. Maybe 230? The coolant was completely topped up when I started the journey..I went to have some tracking done and the car was off for about 30 minutes...when I started it again it still read 220..If I'm moving at a decent speed, it goes down to about 190... Is it running too hot? Or is that about right or could the gauge be faulty..

You don't have enough air flowing through your radiator when the car isn't moving. Replace your fan clutch (if you have one), make sure your fan belt is tight/good. You might want to wash out the fins of the radiator & replace the radiator cap & antifreeze while you are at it (preventative maintenance)

Details of your cooling system are required for anyone to offer an intelligent response.

If this is a new problem, there are two things I would check:
- there is a spring in the lower hose [ you can make one from a wire coat hanger ]
- thermostat. Any doubt about it, get a new 180* stat.
