Taiwan is "the good stuff" these days.
 
Before I got that tool set, the tools I had available were a "standard" screwdriver, a #2 Phillips, a pair of slip joint pliers and a small pair of lineman's style pliers.

...and the first tool I ever bought with my own money, a Channel-Lock brand pair of, well Channel-Locks.

I also seem to remember having 1/2" and 9/16" combo wrenches. Maybe I bought those, too.
 
The only thing worse than chinese made tools is india made tools. That **** they hand forge in a dirt hut while wearing sandals is complete garbage. :lol:
