Who`s bought an AMD 1970 road runner trunk lid - fitment?

The lip is the easy part. It's the rotted out formed areas forward of the lip that are the bigger problem to repair correctly.
Wonder if those formed area's are the same front to back - so to speak - you could cut out and turn around even from another year ? Just thinking outside the trunk.....

Youre doing the best choice IMO. Lips are super easy to fab and the rest is not that bad either.

I have a Glasstek fiberglass trunk lid on this car. I need another deck lid and was thinking of that AMD unit. Everything will require some amount of work for excellent fit.

I'm hijacking this discussion because I want to know @eldubb440 how you separated the hood frame from the hood skin. And why did you use molasses on the skin to remove the rust? Were you thinking that blasting it might warp it? (PS, it was nice to finally meet you in person at Carlisle!) Terry

Hi Terry..... yup, it's good to put a name with a face

it's in the back and sides thread.... the 67 hood

I think it was about 35 spot welds holding the skin to the frame, and yes, sand blasting the skin would pretty much destroy it. Phosphoric acid (ospho) and a wire wheel and elbow grease works too.

Yes, just drill the spot welds around the edges and carefully split it apart. You can check my road runner thread for pics.
`70 road runner, FC7, 383, 727 It`s waited long enough, finally time to get it done.
Thanks, @torredcuda . I drilled out the spot welds, separated the skin from the support, and used my paint stripping wheel on my angle grinder to remove a ton of bondo and paint. By the way, I've never had good luck in rewelding a spot weld hole to a piece of metal so I started drilling through both pieces of metal until they pop apart. When I reweld the pieces together I'm essentially filling a hole; after grinding, there's usually still a little indent/mark to make it KIND OF look like a spot weld.
