Never researched it before but knew there was a substance in the bottle to stabilize the gas.....and didn't expect calcium silicate but it makes sense. Who thought about doing that?? lol It amazes me that there is so much stuff out there that someone figured out what to do with it. Anyways, not worth the effort to cut them in half for scrap but what else is there to do with them except to take the valve off and throw the little bottles in the trash? Anyways, the larger bottles sell well but the little ones do not.

not sure if they require recertification but a plumbers 24"x6" B tank is about $300 here sold filled!

I ended up with an old one here. Did some googling and decided I wasn't going to even try to cut it open. Went to my local welder's supply outfit and they said as long as I was willing to "surrender" it, they would take it. That's what I ended up doing. No paperwork, no danger, no hazmat, just gone.

My old one has a key instead of a knob to turn the valve. It's out dated for sure but not rusty and the valve seals fine.
Local place will only refill it for me they won't swap it .

Opened the valve and nothing came out....took it off (it's brass after all lol) and didn't smell any acetylene so I took the sawzall to it. It also surprised me that the bottle was as thin as it was.
