Don't be stupid....learn from my mistakes!

Punch Press. Caloric Ovens. The safety hardware could easily break a wrist. Theory it’s better than losing a hand.

Sorry to read about this injury Greg....looks nasty....but should heal well by the looks.

Just one thing though....that grinder doesn't look like it has a proper 'Safety trigger' to start it. Just a dumb switch that you press and go. I can tell you that a Makita battery grinder has a switch so well designed that you almost need to be a Rocket Scientist to make it work.
Get rid of that tool, or at least, have it looked at by a pro before thinking about using it again.

Take it easy for a while, and don't blow out the stitches trying to do any hard work.

The tab on the rather large trigger button....

...is supposed to be spring loaded to stick up and block the trigger. I don't know if this one ever did.
I've had this tool since 2021 and put many hours of use on it, It never bit me when used for work, this happened when carrying it.
I appreciate the warning.

Less that a full two days later from this:

It looks like it may not be that noticeable once healed up.

Those are some good stitches. Heal fast sir. I got a new saws all about 15 years ago. It slipped and I put a 3” gash in my leg, super glue and duct tape sealed it so I could finish the job.

Haha, dumb *** :poke: At least it didn’t hit the floor and break the wheel. I damn near got myself with a grinder a while back, lots of torque in them electric motors. At least that’s what the electric car people say. Looks like you won’t be able to post pics on the insta flexing for a while, so that’s good. Get well bud.
Travis..

Glad you are on the mend.
Good thing you’re ok…that’s a big gash. I have a scar on my finger where my hand slid down a grinder and into the cutting wheel (where the guard was supposed to be). I was finishing up a job and making a few last passes to smooth burrs when my glove slipped and viola I had a divot taken out of my finger. Not nearly as big of a cut and the heat from the disk cauterized it, no blood.

I have a similar scar on a finger. First time I ever used a grinder it wasn’t mine, my neighbor borrowed one from the handyman fixing his house and asked if I could help cut a hole in his batting cage for a pitching machine. The grinder had no guard and had a chewed up cord, I get it positioned and switch it on, nothing. Switch back and forth…nothing. Go to put it down and the damaged cord makes contact and it comes to life, jumps and the wheel gets my knuckle and bumps off the bone.
I leave a nice trail from the neighbor’s house to mine to get some paper towels and tape. Then came back to finish the job, since I had no ins or money I taped it up, when it popped all the way open a couple of days later I used special band aides to pull it together and made a splint. That finger felt weird for a few years but finally recovered.

I've joked that I have had a guardian angel following me for years, preventing major injuries or death. It is funny to imagine but interesting to consider.
I've escaped major collisions in traffic that could have gone the other way. I am quite grateful for that.
Some careless moves have somehow not resulted in catastrophes. In 2023 I fell off my own roof and somehow landed on my feet. It could have just as easily been on my head, killing or paralyzing me. I've never had much luck with the lottery but that is okay.

The last decade I drove a tractor trailer, I had zero close calls. Experience left me paranoid, a good survival instinct. When I was in management, I saw too many guys who were close to retirement get in big trouble when they got complacent.

A man that lives on the couch never gets scars but also never gets the glory!
I'd rather live a bit more dangerously rather than safe and boring.
Yeah, the risk of injuries goes way up but so does the fun factor and the amount of stories to tell. I'd rather talk to a stunt man, a veteran, a Police officer or fireman rather than a warehouse foreman that sits at a desk all day!

ya those are mean, got myself once with a metal cutting disk, right across a knuckle, with a hand held. I've used metal chop saws for years framing with metal studs. I've had one bind once and explode sending pieces flying. I always stay to the side when using those. They make metal cutting metal blades for those too. Quite pricey, but safer. Glad to here it didn't mame you for life. heal up stay safe.

I'll bet most of us have slipped when cleaning stuff with a bench mounted wire wheel. I have several times but that is because I like to clean the threads of every bolt that I install and I like using OEM factory hardware. My fingers and hands are scarred up from cuts, scrapes, abrasions and such. I will leave this earth looking like a man who lived and had fun doing it.
