Put the rear of the car up on jack stands and and let the rear end hang down and pull the cover and look for damage. If there is any, you should see it. Use a bright flash light and if there is any, you will see it. Look into the 'holes' in the diff. Might even put one axle in and see if one side will spin any so you can look at the spiders when they rotate. Might have to lock down one axle and grunt on the other to make it 'differentiate'....yeah, I said that

There's really no need to pull the whole rear end out to check things out.....
