I though I would tell folks the difference between these dash frames, they are usually advertised as 1966-67 but they don’t interchange. Kinda long so just view the photos if you are in a hurry!

the column diameter is larger in 1967 because of the collapsible column, so the half round cut out in the dash is a different size. 3 1/2” wide on 1967, 2 3/8” wide 1966.

The chrome trim around that opening is different also. It is plastic and mounts with 3 small screws on a 1967. Use a #1 Phillips tip. #2 won’t work vey well.

For a 1966 It is pot metal with 2 studs and nuts on and one screw on top. You will see the 2 large holes for the studs in 1966 dash are absent in 1967. The cover that goes over the column is larger and plastic on a 1967 and smaller and metal on a 1966

The brake warning light was standard and next to the flasher switch in 1967. The brake warning light was optional and under the dash in 1966.

1967 dash on bottom 2 photos

Top pic. Is a 1966 pot metal column trim with the studs.

Second pic Here is the column covers plastic 1967 top and metal 1966 bottom, night and day difference.

Third pic. Now further info on the 1967 column opening trim. There are 2 different ones. 2 door hardtop and convertible both have the chrome the runs along lower edge of the dash so the plastic chrome trim has longer ends that makes the piece 5/8” wider. So the plastic trim is different for all sedans with no chrome on the lower dash edge.
Some guys know this info, most folks do not. Now you do. Just check eBay and see the misinformation in the auctions.

Now we know the difference between a Coronet dash and a Belvedere dash, right? Coronet has radio up high in the plastic bezel and the plastic instrument bezel meets the glove box door. Also solid metal across bottom where Plymouth radio goes. Plymouth has solid metal in the center of dash between cluster and glove box door.

WOW, I never realized the difference in the columns. Every 66 I've seen always had the brake warning light, so I didn't know about that either.

Thank you!

I have known all this for years, but excellent information for the newer guys and the ones with no 66-67 experience. Thanks for posting.

Don't forget-

No flashers in 66 unless dealer installed.

THe 66-67 Charger dashes were also different, in that 67`s didn’t have the inside release handle except it appears some did. Haven’t verified it. Have seen 2 67 Chargers with inside release handles.

so the million dollar question is;
if you have a 66 dash AND column, they will both work together in a 67, and vice versa? are manual and power steering columns different in regard to length?

Simple answer is yes and yes. There is an adapter available for the shorter column.
