I am looking at taking the aftermarket ignition coil off of my Road Runner, and I have a question about the replacement. When scrolling through the many options on Year One, I was checking out the section on "date coded" ignition coils. Can someone explain to me how that coding works or what each code is an indicator for? For the 1969 B-Bodies alone there were about a dozen or more different date coded coils available.

1st two numbers are the week. last number is the last digit of the year it was made

229 breaks down to 22nd week of 1969 as an example

Coil dates will be pretty close to the cars actual build date.

Exactly what I needed to know. So if my car had a build date of May 26, then I would like for something around week 21 or 22?

I realize this is an older thread, but I can tell you what I did with mine. Since the primary and secondary resistance specs aren't listed for the YO coil, I first bought a Pertronix flame thrower #40011, painted it a low gloss black, then applied stenciling from ECS. I now have an oem spec coil with a correct appearance (different date codes available) for about half the cost. Just an option to consider.
