Is anyone else at deer camp??? It's 1 am and I'm at deer camp in northern MI. My kid got a 7 pt at 11:15 am Saturday.

I sure miss Those days. Back in Minnesota where I grew up and then my 10 year stay in Colorado. Elk, Antelope and Deer - not to mention doing the circuit in surrounding states pheasant hunting. That was a lot of my life back then. My hunting gear has never left the closet since moving to this god forsaken state. The only active hunting here is for people in the many, many combat zones - which are stretching to everywhere here. But don't kid yourself - I'm better armed now than ever before - out of necessity, self protection and family protection. And I live in a "nice" area.

Good hunting to you and your son - great bonding times.

Good for you
Damn deer are everywhere since the do-gooders here don't want you to shoot Bambi. I don't hunt because I'm too lazy now. But I could shoot them on any day and twice on Sunday from my back porch
Have fun, be safe!

It's true. Devoid of natural predators and less hunters than in days past, the deer population around here has
gotten so bad that vehicle-deer accidents are regular occurances anymore.
Up here on the ridge, we have entire families of them waltzing through every day, often coming right up to
the porch; they have no fear, even with my regular target shooting episodes.

Although I don't hunt, I don't care if anyone else enjoys it. In fact, I used to allow hunting up here, but the last
time a hunter got all excited at the sight of a buck up in the steep woods behind us, he managed to instead
shoot the side of the house.
Yep - he had like a 300 degree sweep of clear backdrop to shoot into, but instead shot straight downhill, where
the people are....
When I summarily escorted him from the property in a slap hurry, he kept protesting: "It's an honest mistake!
You should have seen the rack on that buck!"
I replied that if he couldn't tell the difference between a deer and a house, it was time to find another hobby...

His stand is still up in the woods somewhere, where it will remain for at least my time left on earth.

4 and 3. I "think" they count the elk like that here as I hear people talking like that when talking elk.

Too many people in the lower of mi to get a 14 pt... at least by me.

I've been thinking of crossbowing a few and hanging them right here. We have bear here too but not fond of bear meat. There is one 7 pointer here as well. It's all fun until they run into the side of you when you're riding your motorcycle to work.

Had a camp in northern Maine on 50 acres. Those two weeks every year with my dad, uncle, son, and friends were the best of my life. There gone now and my son has no interest but I will cherish those days!

No deer here on PEI. One did swim over here just last month I think just to be hit by a car. Go figure?

That being said. My granddaughter went out to Alberta last week to visit her dad. And they went hunting a few days. On her second last day they bagged this doe. I didn't want to post anybody's picture on the web without permission. But I did leave the big grin to show. Very proud of that girl. Takes after her mum. lol
Good ole Lee Enfield.
