After restoring two cars from the rust belt,I can not believe how nice it to work on my RR from New Mexico!!!!!!!!!!!!That is all I have to say about that!! (LMAO)

POPS

Years back before companies started reproducing parts like they do today, the belief was that Desert cars had great metal but their interiors were wasted from the light and the heat. Snowy climate cars were rusted through but the interiors were still nice.

You all have apparently never be in New Mexico in the winter time.
It may not snow in the desert but that is only a small part of the state.

I drove through an ice storm in New Mexico back in the mid seventies, would have never thought that. The difference is I didn't see them using any salt on the roads, maybe different now. Nowadays, Indiana anyway, dumps salt on the roads even if they think it might snow.

Some one that lives in the area may know what actually is used but for short I call it yellow mud. Darn stuff sticks to every thing and you had better have plenty of washer fluid.

Yeah, isn't it a great feeling to twist a nut and not worrying about snapin a bolt?

No rust, no dents , no bondo. Gota love the desert.

Did it come with free sandblasting. One of the biggest problems with the desert sand never stays put and the sun bakes everything.

I know what you mean my 63 was from LA every bolt came lose

Mine came out of San Antonio. Last one was a 70 Dart out of Vegas. Both rust free. Makes it almost too easy. They were going to crush the Dart, I got a title for it and cloned it to an FJ5 Swinger with white Bee stripe, block top, hood scoops built 360. This car is a B5 383 SE. Stripped the body and put it in DP for now. On it's way to being a Super Bee clone. I've had it apart for a minute...

No more northeast cars for me. California, Florida, Arizona, (some parts ) of Texas, Georgia. There are always exceptions, like here where a resident in sight of the Mexican Border bought a Pennsylvania car. Not me. Those who have not lived in the Northeast can't comprehend how rotten and destructive that salty environment can be.

Removed the paint with striper (no warpage) Removed the bolts holding the seats in with my fingers, after cracking them loose with a wrench. Tops of the seats were dry and brittle, but seat frames still had all the paint on them.

Can't count how many desert cars I've parted out without snapping a bolt. I love living in the desert. Drive my cars year around.

i have no luck i guess..lol
rust free fenders from new mexico with a bondo covered hole the size of my fist.
i have bought better fenders from new york!
rust free cut off quarters from texas with mud over rust holes in the rear lower area.
i have bought some nice stuff from those areas also
but i feel its a crap shoot at best.
i think they will rust in every state...

every "rust free" car I ever saw still had it festering in all the usual places......... I think "garage kept" makes a huge difference

When I bought my 71 GTX project car in 97'. It had Texas plates. The carpet was so dry it tore like paper. Very solid car. Nuts and bolts come off so easy. It's funny because every bit of change under carpet and console was all Mexican money. No American coins at all!

My 65 came out of west Texas, you could have eaten off the floor it was so clean. Of course the underneath was covered in Texas clay. All original sheet metal. My 64 came out of north Alabama, no rust at all in the front fenders or rear quarters. Small amount of rust in the left rear floor pan. I'm not going to complain. Back when I was looking for a car, local cars all needed fenders, quarters, floor pans, trunk pans, cowl, just not worth it to me.
