If you are racing larger axels are a must. When coming off the line one time shifted to second and noticed to my left a tire going by me. Said to my self who's tire is that. Then the rear of the car dropped to the asphalt. Larger U joint's also. The hole drive line need's to be up graded. Have a open diff. now. Have a cone 489 to go into the car. Only to have both wheel's pulling at the same time. Figure better traction is safer. Good luck on the quest.
More locked in is more fun for the driver.

My introduction to gear replacement was in 84 but my first pig swap was in 71. Both were learning experiences. After 84 I started hitting the pick and pull yards and it went down hill from there and that's when you could pick up an 8 3/4 3rd member for 39 bucks! Recently got done doing a Dana 60 from hell. The housing came from Venezuela and that should have been my clue to leave it be!! I've rebuilt and shortened several over the years but this one was one was.....well, from hell! lol
Isnt it nice the kickass from hell old ?

I know it may be a bit for the street have not driven a griz locker just doing the best for our things. Gears are probly too high and converter probly also and to have a locker that only unlocks on a turn but I want to see what I have built if that makes sense.

A 'full spool' doesn't have any slip whatsoever......totally locked wheels.

Say What???????:poke:
Just trying to figure this driveshaft out so far the bolt on yoke 1972 727 from motorhome found a forged spicer 1480 and have a 9 inch in the back. I have a buddy that is giving me a 2 piece driveshaft from a 550 ford dually. Looks like I can take it apart and use the yoke and slip spline with lots of mod. It will be strong enough just have to play and figure. Want to make a weak spot somewhere .

Dana’s are easy just have to get under car and time between the two is about the same in and out. Helps having the right tools. Fastest time on a Dana was 35 minutes, using slip bearings and the pinion had same number. Install new bearing set preload then backlash So simple a cave man can do it.

Been trying to tell people that for years. I've had Dana 60 gear sets that were already in a housing and took them out and put them in a box with the shims they came out with. All gears have to be set up by someone but the 8 3/4 rears are handy for the ones that do not want to set up the gears but trust others instead and just buy them and plug it in. Once a set of 60 gears are set up in one housing, they are usually really close to all the other housings. If you want to slam in the 60 gears that were already set up in one housing, it's really easy to plug them back in. I have a spreader but in a pinch, the carrier bearing races can be heated to make the carrier easier to stick in instead of hammering it in.....and maintain the correct backlash.

You can break most axles if you try hard enough!
Big tyres and a good burnout will get some real grip off the line and a very loose converter will bust them gears, even seen 40 splines broke on a sticky track lol...
Anyways I have a 71 Gtx with a trac-loc Dana.
Folks are saying 400hp in a large car is about your MAX!
So I’m gonna swap it out for a Powr-loc with 4.10’s...

Am I gonna need anything special to do it?

Thanx in advance for John.
