74 Roadrunner. I’m at a dilemma about the my sunroof. I have never been able to make it fit or work correctly and I can’t get parts to fix it. I’m thinking about patching it over and filling it in. It is a real sunroof car, but I can’t prove it because the fender tag is gone. You would still see the sunroof from the inside of the car. What do you all think. What would you do?

Sunroof cars are pretty rare why not make a fiberglass plug? I wouldn't just do away with it. Post some pictures of the sunroof from under and above I bet people here will know if its legit.

There is a 73 on this page that is legit. Cars for Sale

It is legit. It’s already been verified when it was removed to attempt to get it to work and level it. It is American Sunroof Corporation for sure.

That a manual crank sun roof car? Buddy might have a parts 72 Charger sitting

Yes it’s manual crank. A 72 would be electric. I’m not sure if they are interchangeable. My panel is a big reason for contemplating closing it up. There would be more filler needed than I would be comfortable with using as it will probably crack.

What is the issue with your panel, rust?
Several things. The amount of filler needed will crack over time. The panel will not level with the roof because it needs parts that are not available. The roof will not operate because it needs parts that are not available.

I was curious if your panel itself was damaged. Ironically, my car's only rust spot is a little over a dime sized and it's in the front corner of my sunroof panel. I didn't know if that was a typical issue.

Mine is dented. I wish it was surface rust the size of a dime.

Secure it in the closed position and neatly use black silicone caulk to seal it from water intrusion. Then hunt or wait for parts, or just leave it for the next guy.

It doesn’t leak. It just won’t align correctly due to needing parts and the amount of filler required is going to crack over time. I am the next guy. Not selling, want to restore it correctly and keep it. Besides I will have way more $ invested when I am finished then it will ever be worth. But that’s usually how it goes.

Filling it in, or some patchwork fix is the LAST thing you should do. Anything is fixable. I don't know your level of experience, but an analytical approach to a repair method is the start. It worked when manufactured. It can be returned to a functional state. "Needs parts" ? . Identify. Then search.

Parts are not available that it needs. I’ve been fighting with this sunroof for over a year. The car now is at a third shop and everyone has messed with that sunroof. It’s starting to become a lost cause.

Take a look at the following thread:

Factory Sunroof Parts
Thanks Delta, I’ve already been through that thread awhile ago and pursued all the recommendations. The last guy working on the sunroof had all this information too, including all the service manual attachments for the sunroof. He narrowed it down to two parts that were need but missing from the sunroof and those parts are not available. I even asked him about fabrication but he would need something to use for a template and the parts are missing.
