Hi everyone I have a bad dimmer switch in my 69 coronet the dome light is always on even with the doors closed I took out the bulb the dimmer switch seems loose when I move it with my thumb so I believe this is the culprit and tips on how to remove it?

Normally, the gauge cluster is removed first, then the dimmer switch is removed from the back. The steering column needs to be unbolted/lowered to get the gauge cluster out (& steering wheel removed)

Rolling the dimmer switch fully up to the "click" completes the ground to turn on the dome light. I'd be surprised if that was the culprit vs a grounded out door switch or wire touching the body behind the kick panel.

The only thing is it doesn’t click at all

Seen plenty with a bad rheostat but never had the contacts stuck together. It is pretty much a failure proof design.

Yea I put the bulb back in and rolled th dimmer switch and it does not turn off the dome light even when the doors are closed!

The jamb switches are in the ground wire. So if the wire gets pinched somehow and touches groun then the dome light will be on full time.

Doubt the switch is the problem. But anything is possible.

Ok but the dimmer switch has like no resistance to it like it’s sloppy when I turn it back and forth with my thumb

Dimmer switch runs your dash light brightness. Only when rolled all the way up it actuates the ground circuit contacts and I've never seen those stuck together. Before you start tearing the dash apart... I'd be checking those door jam switches to see if the insulation has worn off the plunger on one, or the wires are touching the body behind same. I'm out..

I reached behind the dimmer switch and started rolling it back and forth and now the dome light turns off when I close the doors so something is wrong with the dimmer switch
