Hi all. I am getting close to first start on the 440. Realized I do not have a dipstick yet! My brain is telling me a regular dipstick and tube should work just fine, because it is reading the TOP of the oil level range not the bottom. I believe the engine builder put a Moroso deep sump pan on there (pic below) but that should really only affect the capacity, not the read-range on the dipstick right? I know this is probably a stupid question, but it is more of a sanity check than anything. Thanks in advance.

Full is full yes. But there is 2 schools of thought involved here. First is added capacity so you fill to the full mark using say 6,7,or 8 qts. Second is getting the oil further from the crank to reduce windage. Thus if the pickup is correctly placed you put 5 qts in and remark your dipstick. Take your pick.

If you’re worried about windage put a tray or a scraper in it. It’s just dumb to run a deep pan with less than its rated capacity. Kim
