Wilwood does not make an upgrade kit for a 1968 Charger that came with factory front disc brakes. Is there anyone that does? Is the solution to buy drum spindles and use the drum to disc brake upgrade kit? Will a drum spindle bolt on?

Dr Diff sells caliper brackets that accept Wilwood 4 piston calipers, it’s an easy bolt on upgrade. You’ll have to source the calipers, pads and hoses separately, but you’ll be into it for about half the cost of a Wilwood brake kit because you retain the stock rotors.

I believe nomadci said they have factory disc brakes and the doctor diff brackets to accommodate wilwood disc brakes are intended to be used on 1973 and up A body disc brakes.

Factory disc brakes are already a 4 piston caliper style brake. If your parts are good why bother going to the effort to switch out to some one else’s 4 piston caliper brakes?

If it’s something you just want to do that cool. Too. I have 10" drum knuckles in alberta canada I could sell and ship to you in case you can’t find any closer..

Another change you could make would be to change to the 73-76 A-body disc brake knuckle and then there are different options for calipers and rotor size’s there.

Baer is another maker, I don’t know what they offer but I think they have a kit too.

I had already done the A Body spindle conversion so I forgot about that one important fact. Thanks for the clarification. Even with the cost of 73+ up spindles it’s a worthwhile upgrade, and still less expensive than the full Wilwood kit.

Does converting to the 73 A body spindle entail any other modifications?

You need the associated rotors and bearings etc to do that. And then if you use stock a-body brakes you’ll need caliper, caliper brackets, rotors and hoses.

I can’t say with absolute certainty, it’s been 20 years since I swapped from drum to disc on my GTX. The spindles bolted on no problem but I don’t know if the rest of your 68 parts are compatible because I followed the recipe outlined in the disc-o-tech article, which sourced some later model Mopar parts.

So can I change the spindles to drum and then buy a disc brake upgrade kit? Are factory drum and factory disc brake spindles interchangeable?

Drum and disc spindles do not interchange, disc spindles have mounting bosses for the caliper bracket

I have run the factory 4-piston front disc brakes on my 1967 Coronet R/T for over 30 years with ZERO problems. I converted from original 11" drums to these.

My question is, can I replace the factory disc spindles with factory drum spindles like the ones pictured? There are a lot of conversion kits that use the factory drum spindles (for 6 piston 13-14 inch disc conversions) and allow me more options if this was a viable solution. I want larger rotors and 6 piston calipers.

The 1968 disc brakes are fairly rare and certainly worth some money if they are complete and in working order. You can pull those brakes off and sell them to someone who really wants them and then install an 11.75 kit if you have 15 inch wheels. If you have 14 inch wheels then install the late model 10.95 kit.

If you want big rotors and 6 piston brakes then sell what you have to just buy a complete kit. You can buy Wilwood which is a low end kit, or you can buy Baer which is more expensive but more money. Personally I'd use Baer but some people go with Wilwood to save money.
On my own car I use either Porsche or Viper calipers on a 13 inch rotor. This setup requires a 17 inch rim.

I build my own hubs so I can control the offset, but if you don't have that ability you can buy aluminum hubs from Baer. You can get knuckles from Doctor Diff.

Here is a Baer setup on an A body road race car that I worked on. This car would go 150 mph on the front straight at Portland international. It was also street driven with a 426 inch small block.
