Disc brake upgrade for stock front disc 68 Charger RT

Wilwood does not make an upgrade kit for a 1968 Charger that came with factory front disc brakes. Is there anyone that does? Is the solution to buy drum spindles and use the drum to disc brake upgrade kit? Will a drum spindle bolt on?

Dr Diff sells caliper brackets that accept Wilwood 4 piston calipers, it’s an easy bolt on upgrade. You’ll have to source the calipers, pads and hoses separately, but you’ll be into it for about half the cost of a Wilwood brake kit because you retain the stock rotors.

I believe nomadci said they have factory disc brakes and the doctor diff brackets to accommodate wilwood disc brakes are intended to be used on 1973 and up A body disc brakes.

Factory disc brakes are already a 4 piston caliper style brake. If your parts are good why bother going to the effort to switch out to some one else’s 4 piston caliper brakes?

If it’s something you just want to do that cool. Too. I have 10" drum knuckles in alberta canada I could sell and ship to you in case you can’t find any closer..

Another change you could make would be to change to the 73-76 A-body disc brake knuckle and then there are different options for calipers and rotor size’s there.

Baer is another maker, I don’t know what they offer but I think they have a kit too.

I had already done the A Body spindle conversion so I forgot about that one important fact. Thanks for the clarification. Even with the cost of 73+ up spindles it’s a worthwhile upgrade, and still less expensive than the full Wilwood kit.

You need the associated rotors and bearings etc to do that. And then if you use stock a-body brakes you’ll need caliper, caliper brackets, rotors and hoses.

I can’t say with absolute certainty, it’s been 20 years since I swapped from drum to disc on my GTX. The spindles bolted on no problem but I don’t know if the rest of your 68 parts are compatible because I followed the recipe outlined in the disc-o-tech article, which sourced some later model Mopar parts.

Drum and disc spindles do not interchange, disc spindles have mounting bosses for the caliper bracket

I have run the factory 4-piston front disc brakes on my 1967 Coronet R/T for over 30 years with ZERO problems. I converted from original 11" drums to these.

Spindles are swapable from side to side with no effect on steering geometry. With disc brake spindles, this allows you to hang the calipers out back, or front, as clearance allows.
