distance to get car

Drove over 4 hours one way into northwestern NY state from Vermont towing a trailer to buy a 1967 Coronet 500. Through the Adirondack mountains....twice. Your not nuts.

My next car I hope to "con" the seller into transporting it to my house. I almost lopped my finger off trying to transport my JUDGE and am not about to deal with the shipping companies any more.

I would not buy a car without seeing it.
I have and have yet to have regretted it. Although I ask for extensive photos of the car before I commit to a purchase

In 2001, I drove to North Dakota from Oklahoma to deliver a Jeep in trade for a Hudson. In the Winter, five degrees F, and lots of snow and ice. Virginia and North Carolina for cars. Central Florida. Several trips to Colorado and Texas. Add Nebraska, South Dakota, Utah, New Mexico, Mississippi, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois...you get the idea. I've travelled up to 1,200 miles one-way to buy a vehicle. A 500-mile r/t is cake. I've done double that and more for just parts.

Buy an electric winch for your trailer. Problem solved. I had a buyer of a wagon I had back in 2001, ask me to transport the car to Ohio for him. I did. With another $1,200 tacked onto the price of the car. No "conning" involved. You expect the seller to do that for free???

Bet there was an ocean going vessel involved with that trip...LOL

My previous reply was to Adam Nathans post. I was fortunate in the fact that in 1997 my brother flat towed his 69 Charger from Dayton, Oh to me here in Western PA. About 242 miles one way. The only bad thing was when he stopped to get gas near Cambridge, he accidently left the keys for the 69 on the gas pumps there and proceeded on with the trip.

Bought mine in Indy, and had it transported back to Philly. $500 plus the airfare to see it in person. Best $ I ever spent besides buying a beermeister. Finding these cars in the local trading times is a rarity anymore. It's easy to travel and to transport them too. You're not crazy at all.

Last fall I drove 14 hours roundtrip just for a power bulge hood. It's all about the journey...

I have my own trailer.

New Jersey to Mass
North Carolina to Mass
Ontario to Mass
Arizona to Mass.

And I just had one transported from San Francisco to Mass.

You are not crazy, these cars are hard to find so you have to get where you find it.

It is my wife's birthday monday and we are driving 528 miles (one way) to look at a car........I am planning on buying it ........unless it is not as represented.
She insisted on doing this :bday3:

2800 miles round trip.

$1500 for car.

$1100 for trip.

Driving route 66 with a nearly rust free big block car in tow- priceless.

probably a half dozen trips into the states on about 4-5-600 mi one way for various cars and another couple of trips that i sent my truck and trailer with a driver to p/u. the last trip sending a driver i brought back a 67 galaxie convert complete and a 67 belevedere roller from moab utah. 3800 mi return.
i drove truck when i was a young lad and now i am semi-retired from business and i still get a kick out of just taking off for a bit. i am not a car dealer in any way but we just don't have good solid cars up here and some i keep and some i sell to cover the cost of the trip and i don't travel cheap. its by far cheaper for me to send a driver, lol. when you have got the bug, its hard to shake.

Drove from Las Vegas to Remsen Iowa and back to pick up a '53 Henry J. 2916 miles!

OK .. wife :nono: is bugging me about another road trip I'm about to make to purchase a car .. 235 miles this time .. now I think its a very reasonable distance to get my next car but my wife thinks I'm nuts and tells everyone something wrong with this guy ..done 3 or 4 hundred miles in the past to get one.. she thinks me and a few friends are the ONLY nuts out there .. anyone else travel a distance to get their car ?

SOOO ..tonight I let my wife read the replies to my question ..now she thinks were all nuts but hey 38 years of marriage will do that.. will be leaving to get the car this week when we get a non-snow/sleet/ somekindofbull$hit day here in NY and she will be the co-pilot ...I was counting and this is the 8th car she has picked up with me since I retired 14 years ago so she knows the drill as they come and go.. she just rolls her eyes when I buy them but looks for a taste when I sell them ..OK shes looking over my shoulder so I better go before I have to rent a trailer :argue:

I drove from northern NJ to Roanoke VA to get my GTX. About 425 miles in each direction. Well worth the effort in my opinion anyway.
Good luck!

I have made several trips over the years for cars and to purchase parts. I have always enjoyed the drive, seeing different states, and for the most part meeting other mopar minded people. To me the road trip was just part of the fun. Bought two 65 coronets in Norman, OK and few years back that was about a 1600 mile round trip. Bought a 65 coronet wagon parts car in Claremore, OK when I had my 65 wagon that was a 1350 mile round trip. I have been many places on the hunt for mopars some have worked out great while other have been a dry haul but it's the fact I only have one life to live and I enjoy the ride!

I drove from So-Cal (LA area at the time) to Phoenix AZ and back to go bring back my '73 Dart Swinger. 700 mile round trip roughly?

my latest car I drove 220 mi. round trip and negotiated having a flatbed tow it the following week. The weekend prior I went and looked at a car that was not as represented. (which was 420 mi round trip).

I made 300 mi round trip to see my recently departed 71 Satty, then came back 2 days later w/ trailer for it. It then made the trip to Germany.

A buddy and myself towed 18 hours each way to inspect and pick up my 65 Belvedere, plus dealing with border security guys. I was only making that trip once, so if the car was not as expected we were going home with an empty trailer. Everything was good so the deal was done. Pissed rain all the way there and back, and only stopped briefly to allow us to load up the car and parts.
