Door latch

I'm having trouble with my drivers side door latch. Every once and a while after you open the door the catch in the latch flops down whereas it is supposed to stay still after opening the door. None of the manuals have a breakdown of the latch mechanisms that I can find to see if there is something amiss. Thanks.

Every once in awhile sounds like gummed up OR some pivot points with some wear allowing it to work sometimes.
