Any folks out there have any experience with Doug's Headers? Quality/Fit/Installation? Was leaning TTI because I heard mostly good things, but searching around a bit I heard Doug's were pretty good as well. I also heard there is actually (2) Doug's Header businesses operating. One is ran by his wife because of a brutal divorce settlement and the other started back up by the man himself. Any truth to that?

BTW...car to be installed in- '69 B-Body.

Thanks guys.

First, they are top rate. I ran a set on a 65 Valiant I had years ago with a violent small block. Best fitting and easiest install I ever had. I plan to get their headers soon for my 65 Coronet.

As to the thing about the divorce. First I heard of that.....BUT there does indeed seem to be two companies. One is "Doug Thorley Headers" and the other is "Doug's Headers". How it came to be, I don't know, but your version would certainly make sense.

Just found this on The Hamb. Sounds right because on the "Doug Thorley Headers" site, trucks and motorhomes are what you see most.

"Doug Thorley Headers and Headers by Doug (aka Doug's Headers) are two different companies. Headers by Doug was the first name that he used making headers out of his muffler shop. As the header business grew it became "Doug's Headers". Then
Doug Thorley Headers After a divorce Doug's wife Betty ran Doug Thorley Headers, it was a different company and Doug was not really involved too much. They made a few of the original designs, but really went after the motor home and truck market. In later years he did invest in it a bit but Doug's Headers was still his company and the name that he used. When Betty passed on her partner eventually sold the company to Summit Industries who also owns the Jardine brand, Jerry Jardine's old company. Doug continued on as Doug's Headers eventually deciding to retire and sold the company to PerTronix who continues to
build the Original Doug's Headers using his designs and tooling as well as adding new design of the same theory and quality that Doug always adhered to."

My "Bud" has Doug's (Maybe Headers By Doug) ?
From what I have known:
1. Very good reputation
2. Been around for a long time
3. Great R&D
4. Great customer support

I'm running the TTIs

Gee, I never knew about the divorce thing!
Now I'm not so sure about anything I typed above. (confused)

As said above, "Doug's Headers" is Doug's original company that Pertronix now owns. Those are the headers that are the gooduns. Not saying the others are not, the Doug's Headers seem to be more for cars and hot rods.

My "Bud" has "Doug's" headers.
Now a division of Petronix Performance Products
Business started: Los Angeles, 1958

Like Rusty stated above, Doug's headers IS the original company.
BUT: I have NEVER heard anything BAD about : Doug Thorley Headers either.
Hang on for more data...

Thanks for the input guys. Seems like Doug's has a pretty good wrap with you fella's as well. I was leaning on the side of TTI's, but a bit of their price seems to be heightened by their name.

Funny I get in this post and everybody has good things to say about Dougs headers. But when I was asking for input a while back on a couple different brands, I was told in no uncertain terms to get TTI's lol.

Guess the wind was blowing from the East that day.......lol

On the bright side, judging from what these guys have to say about Doug's and what others said about TTI's on your thread, looks like you now have a couple good options as far as headers.

Just ordered a set of Doug's.......Thanks again guys. I'll be sure to post how they work out and will be looking for RRR's input when his gets bolted to the Dodge.

Hey will, years ago i bought a set of Doug's (had to be before the divorce) for my van. They were the only company i could get them from. Was really impressed with the sound they made with thrush mufflers. They lasted for years even in snow.Hope you have just as good of luck with the ones you get.

Thanks! Good to hear the worked out good for your Van Roger.

You didn't live down by the river did ya?

Do any of you know if the Doug's headers are the same dimensions and the TTIs? The reason I ask is I have a TTI exhaust system and am wondering if I were to go with Dougs if I'd have to modify/cut the exhaust to fit the Dougs. I have a '69 b body as well.

If there was any difference between the headers, it would be in the length of the tubes down to the collecters.Maybe you can call them or see if they have dimensions on there web.

anyone have pics of dougs headers that they have bought? heard good things about them but have yet to see them

it's a bit late because you have ordered already but if the doug's quality for the headers is as good as the electric cut outs, you have a winner.
THERE GREAT! lol :headbang:

I have had 4 sets of TTIs and on 2 of them I have had to put a dent at #5 plug to get a spark plug wrench on it. One of those dents was even on a set of Indy angled plug heads with 440.The other 915s on a 383. I made a jig so the the dent was nice. I have had one set of Dougs, in a 64 fury with a 383. They were a good fit with no dents. Even used a stock starter, it was however captured. I had 906s with the Dougs and no plug issues. My next set is for 64 Belvedere with 440 and stealth heads, that IQ52 has as we speak they will be Headmans for 376 bucks ceramic coated. I will let you know on these.

Pic of the headers......Quality seems great!
